Photographic
reconnaissance was of vital importance to the Allied war effort during
WW2. The RAF’s Photographic Unit – the PRU – operated from Benson
airfield, near Oxford, with two squadrons each of Spitfires and
Mosquitoes. The ‘Mossie’ was described by John Cunningham as ‘the most
outstanding aircraft developed during the Second World War’. Focus on Europe is the story of one young man who flew unarmed PRU
mosquitoes on dangerous, but vital, reconnaissance sorties over Europe
in 1943-5. Ron Foster came to the UK from New Zealand, and during that
period he and his navigator flew sixty-nine sorties over every country
in Europe except Greece and Portugal.
