A biography of this man has been needed for a long time and this book does not disappoint. Firstly, it's extremely well presented, in hardback with a dustcover and is printed on 288 high quality pages. The first few chapters deal with DTW's family and his early years and pay particular attention to his brother and sister who, like DTW, went on to serve in WW2. From chapter 5 onwards the book deals with DTW's service in the British Airborne and leads into his one and only time in action, at Arnhem in September 1944. The battle is covered in great detail and gives a real insight into what DTW and his men went through. Subsequent chapters deal with DTW's escape from being a POW, his time being hidden by the Dutch Underground and then his involvement in Operation Pegasus, the mission to return British evaders back into Allied hands. The last few chapters deal with DTW's later life in Kenya where he would ultimately pass away. This book has been extremely well researched and is well presented, with numerous photos of DTW and his family in both their military and civilian lives.
